Question by Nick: Volunteering on the Salvation Army Website?
I was hoping to offer my time to volunteer somewhere. I’ve been looking to volunteer anywhere in downtown Chicago (I’ll take the train but I don’t mind walking since I like being in Chicago).

Anyways, what I did was put the zip code in at the top (one of the Chicago zips – 60602) and I got to this:

Looking at this page, my best guess would be that I need to Email the people involved and ask them when volunteers are needed? So, I guess my question is just to confirm that. What do you guys think?

Also, what does “Adult Rehabilitation” refer to? Is that detox.

Such addictions need expert help and clinical assistance for detoxification and recovery. This help and support is offered by rehabs specially designed for substance addiction. These rehabs study their clients individually, and then find out the root cause of the addiction. This reason for addiction could be social, financial or it could be even emotional problems. According to the problems the experts draw therapies which are then effectively administered onto the patients. Every kind of addiction needs different type of treatment. No two individuals are similar, based on this the treatment is also offered on individual basis. California drug rehab is one of such rehabs which completely believe in offering personalized recovery treatment. General focus of the rehabs is to enable the patient to cease substance abuse, in order to avoid the psychological, legal, financial, social, and physical consequences that can be caused, especially by extreme abuse.

A dual diagnosis program is a treatment program wherein psychiatric disorders / mental illnesses, which occur concurrently with substance abuse, are treated.

A dual diagnosis program is appropriate for patients who suffer from psychiatric, mental, and emotional disorders. These disorders include, but arent limited to depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, compulsive/obsessive disorders, among myriad other mental health issues.

For patients who experience the aforementioned conditions, drugs or alcohol are frequently used as medicinal coping mechanisms to ameliorate the emotional pain, discomfort, and distress caused by these issues. Unfortunately, as a result of the self-medicating, or in many cases prescribed medicating, the patient becomes addicted to prescribed or controlled drugs and/or the alcohol that they use to medicate with, which presents entirely new issues that must be addressed and resolved, most commonly through the services of a dual diagnosis program.

The primary treatment components of a quality dual diagnosis program include individual therapy, small group therapy, psych-educational therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and a multitude of other therapeutic modalities, as they are appropriate for the each, individual circumstance.

Dual diagnoses are very complex and present significant challenges to treat. Treatment in a dual diagnosis program must be completed in a comprehensive manner, which addresses the mental health issues, while concurrently addressing and resolving the substance abuse issues, in order to ensure the best chances of success. Unfortunately, the recidivism rate of dual diagnosis patients who seek treatment in a traditional substance abuse treatment program is extremely high, due to the failure to address the underlying mental health issues that so often drive the addictive behavior.
