As stated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the major drug abuse problems in the state of Washington is due to it being a transshipment state between Canada and the US for illegal drugs. One of the major drug abuse problems in the state happens to be Canadian marijuana called BC Bud, with other drugs coming in just behind this one such as MDMA called Ecstasy. BC Bud is highly potent marijuana making its way into the US through bordering states such as Washington. The Canadian drugs mentioned above are being sold in the US to purchase cocaine to redistribute in Canada with organized crime organizations in control. The most involved organizations are believed to be Vietnamese organized crime groups and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs such as the Hell’s Angels.

The crystal meth drug abuse problem in Washington is under the control of Mexican drug trafficking organizations, which are distributing the illegal drug throughout the state.

Cocaine is a huge problem in the state with crack cocaine being seen in lower income communities with more and more individuals seeking help through drug rehab centers. Heroin is another drug abuse problem with the major drug seen being Mexican black tar heroin. Mexican drug trafficking organizations are scattered throughout the state trafficking illegal drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Washington is no stranger to marijuana, a matter of fact; there are three different types of marijuana you can find on the streets throughout the state. The three types include locally grown, Canadian BC Bud, and Mexican marijuana. The major drug abuse cases involve homegrown or BC Bud as these are more potent.

Prescription drugs are the second most abused drug in the US when it comes to children or teens. Washington is also having its own problems with prescription drug abuse. Individuals seeking help from drug abuse treatment centers due to prescription drug addiction are in most case abusing OxyContin, Percocet, Percodan, Vicodin, Lortab, anabolic steroids, and Methadone.

In 2005, in the state of Washington, just a bit over 37,000 individuals received help for their drug or alcohol problem in one of the drug and alcohol treatment centers. In 2006, there were 439 different drug rehab and alcohol treatment facilities to choose from offering a wide range of treatment methods. The various drug rehab treatment centers offer help for those struggling with problems associated with prescription drugs, meth, alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine. Whereas alcohol treatment centers offer help for individuals with an addiction to alcohol, however, you can find treatment centers that offer help for more than one addiction. Today, more and more individuals are struggling with addictions to more than one drug, thus the reason for drug and alcohol treatment centers to work with individuals for all types of addictions. In the state of Washington, hospitals, and doctors alike work to help individuals find the help they need with their alcohol abuse or drug abuse problem.
